I went into amazon today. My intent was to delete out a couple of items from my Wish list. In the process, I got sucked into going through my recommendations. In the process of saying ‘Own it/Don’t want it/Add it to Wish list’ I managed to both clear out my list of recommendations as well as exponentially increase the size of my wish list.
Signed my gaming group up to be a playtest group over the weekend. They closed the sign ups late last night. Haven’t heard if we got in or not yet.
Speaking of my gaming group.. I feel like we’ve had it a little easy. Next game we’ve got Cloverfield/Godzilla munching on DC so maybe that’ll show us. Still, I want to do a game where there is a strong chance of the PCs getting soundly thrashed. The problem is that the setting still post-superhuman purge but I have a plan.
The Brain Trust (I want to go cheesy with the names just to underscore the kick-ass-ness of this team) a group of supervillains from before the cataclysm time jumpped from the past which means that there is a nice justification for them being bad-ass and working together.
Pythia – A psychic who can see the future. Her powers mirror my character’s powers only more bad ass. Its a good hook plus an excuse to take my PC out of the game for the duration. The telepathy abilities have the benefit of using team-work within the group. She was the one who saw the cataclysm coming.
TimeZone – I’m figuring powers very similar to Hiro’s from Heroes. Time Stop.. paralyzing.. plus he was able to bring the group into the future.
Wolf Lord – Some minor shapeshifting abilities for combat purposes plus some very loyal wolf minions. Pretty minor.. until you realize he can control those wolves because they hear his Ultrasonic mind control commands.. and there are two existing PCs with Ultrahearing.
WebSurfer – Yes, he litterally ‘surfs’ the web by jumping into it and travelling through the virtual world. The nasty part of the build is his ability to ‘delete’ files.. particularly in those with datalink.. to the point where he can get in there and start draining skills and feats.
Funhouse – A clown with mirror related abilities including the ability to teleport through mirrors and create ‘evil duplicates’ of the heroes.
As I see it, the best way to plan an adventure is to decide what the ideal situation for the baddies is and then allow for the PCs to break that. In this case our baddies have arrived from the past and set up shop. So far they’ve only had a fleeting encounter with Websurfer who they couldn’t catch but they knew SOMEONE was deleting files.
The plan: Set up a bank job as a bait for the pcs. When they arrive, take them down using lethal force. Wolf Lord has the ability to resurrect them if they die so that isn’t a problem. Once captured, extract their DNA to make super-powered minions and then dispose of the heroes by sending them back in time where they can be ‘erased’ by the cataclysm.
Its clean enough that I won’t feel bad if the PCs loose but gives them some wiggle room to fight back/escape if they can.
