I have a pretty sizable project due at the end of this month so I’m working on putting together some ideas and do some redesign. Because of this, they’ve given me permission to requisition a white-board for my office. Go me.
So my plan for today’s babble is to discuss “DarkTouch”.
Years ago, back when you had to install the GEOs OS onto your PC in order to properly run AOL (Version 1?) I thought that using AOL for my “internet” (such as it was) access was a good idea. Note that at this point you ALSO paid by the minute of connection with some free minutes to start. You also spent 15 minutes downloading a 25K GIF file. I spent 6 minutes today downloading a 40Meg PDF file. I don’t think that my harddrive was that big back then.
Anyway, I wanted a cool screen name to “Impress the Ladies” with. Note that I was 17 at the time and couldn’t talk to a girl “as friends” without breaking into a cold sweat. I remember one girl.. screen name was “Peirced brain” I think she was 23 or so.. she was interested too.. up until she found out how old I was. So even then, getting a name without a number on the end of it was difficult. Black hand, dark hand, etc etc. My goal was something dark and cool (no idea what goth was.. well, I did but I laughed at them) that didn’t have a number after it. DarkTouch is what I got.
I’ve since run across 2 other people who’ve used it, both on ICQ. Someone owns darktouch.com but aren’t doing anything with it. Darktouch.org used to be owned but no longer is. And none of the other random domains has anything like that on it. It’s mine. Well, there are two schmutzes on ICQ using it.. Denmark and someone who CLAIMS to be an assassin for hire in Afganistan.. *snort*

I used the name when I got into Muds/Mucks… It was my name on nails way back when and my furry character. The character on Furry was a snake. I got the idea from a water ride up by lake george. “The Black Cobra is a Long Wet Thrill ride.” There was actually a water entrance to his home under the mountain… where he kept his secret lab. Don’t ask what he did there. The snake got killed as part of a plot and was reincarnated as a Venom-like being elsewhere. He married a beautiful sorceress with “well shaped breasts”. Happy ending for an evil fellow really.
I put down Darktouch as the “True Name” of Kiern as well. Poor Drake Archer got screwed over because he put down “Drake Archer” as his true name. Those things are Supposed to be secret.
Whenever I’ve ever filled out any of those register on-line things, I’ve always put down that my company was “Touch of Darkness”. Hopefully that’ll serve me well when I start publishing PDF files. Of course I could be more talk than actual production.. but I’ve got BIG PLANS! Yes Sir-ee Bob!
