Joanna Barnum: Illustrator

Ms Marvel and Mary Marvel

I first came across Joanna years ago on one of the fan art sites. I'm going to say Elfwood. I don't go around making friends with artists on these sites but for whatever reason I noticed her fan art and noticed that she had a livejournal. As I had just started getting into that blogging tool, I added her and said hello.

Big Planet Comics

Big Planet Comics

A few years ago I was in the midst of my first Mutants and Mastermind's game and started getting into comics. It started out with a few graphic novels as I worked my way through Neil Gaiman's Sandman series. I made the leap to stand alone comics when DC put out their 52 series. I was drawn in to the series by the promise of an entire year where I didn't have to know what was going on in any other comics and could just read that one comic. It of course didn't stay there. As the guys at the gaming table said, it was my gateway drug.

Amy Czelusniak Studios

Amy Czelusniak Studios Logo

In the general course of cleaning through the vast sea of files I have on my iPod (see This Post), I found myself sorting through my Wedding pictures today. There are a lot of them but they are nothing compared to the giant pile of picture we have stuffed in our wedding box. It had me thinking about how the entire event was so masterfully captured by Amy Czelusniak and her assistant.

Easy Duplicate Finder

Easy Duplicate Finder Logo

Hi. My name is Bill and I like to make copies of files. (Hi Bill!)

Here is my confession. I have natural tendency towards being a pack rat. With my wife's help I've managed to fight these natural urges over the years, removing much of the clutter around the house. (Although my collection of Action figures is probably too big) The contents of my hard drive on the other hand is a different matter. At work, they were nice enough to let me purchase a Terabyte External Hard Drive for holding all of my work related files since I've collected more than my fair share of files over 9 years there. For personal use I picked up a classic ipod with 120 gig of storage. It gives me the advantage of a music and picture player along with the storage I need to collect all of my stuff.... and even then it wasn't quite enough.

Right Left Center

Right Left Center

The majority of the links I post get four or five stars. The reason for this is that I usually only post stuff that I like. This one may get a little rambling as I try to describe why I don't like it. If nothing else, the quote will be worth a peak if only to shake your head at it.

Punch an' Pie

Punch and Pie Logo

Way back when, there was a webcomic called Queen of Wands. The titular character was a girl named Kestrel who lived in Denver and tried to figure out who she was. One of the people she met was a girl named Angela who looked like she was 12 and worked with Kestrel in the toystore. Angela fell in love with Kestrel but the sentiment wasn't returned. The comic ended when the Queen of Wands moved on with her life (and got hit by a car in a completely different comic).

Token Female Gamer

Token Female Gamer

The Token Female Gamer is a friend of mine from back in college. I met her through my wife as they were both in the same Computer Science program. She was one of the vampire gamers at UMass with me and after college she moved to California to work for the Blizzard North team. So yeah, she has a little gamer cred under her belt.

Swiftriver Comics

Swiftriver Banner

I read comic books for superhero stories. I read web comics for Modern Fantasy. There are exceptions to both rules but Swiftriver Comics falls squarely in the latter category. It follows the story of Bowie Swiftriver (gotta love the hippie name) who as of the beginning of the comic is an about-to-retire thief. For whatever reason Bowie has started seeing 'beneath the surface' of the world to the fantasy beneath.

The Devil's Panties

The Angel and the Devil

A Quasi-Autobiographical account of writer/artist Jennie Breeden's life, this comic goes beyond the mundanity of every day life and takes a look at some of the quirkier thoughts and adventures that Jennie has had. I have never met the real life Jennie so anything I might say here comparing real life Jennie to fictional Jennie is pure conjecture and interpretation. I don't get the feeling that she would be that hard to meet however as she seems to attend a number of conventions with DragonCon holding a special place in her heart (or at least it gets the most discussion in the comic).

Songspeak dot Com

The Songspeak Logo

Anyone who pays attention to my blog may notice that while I've spoken about a number of different topics, but music isn't one of them. I'm a big music fan (Mostly geekish stuff like They Might be Giants, Barenaked Ladies, and Mediaeval Babes as the 23 gig of mp3 on my Ipod will attest to) but I tend to enjoy my music passively. I sit back and I listen and am entertained but very little of my attention goes into it beyond quoting the occasional lyric. For anything deeper I turn to my friends.
