Though I remember having an interest in superheroes as early as the 7th grade, I am a late bloomer when it comes to reading comic books. It started with graphic novels and a superhero RPG and has now devolved into a once a week walk down to the local comic book store.

Galatea

Galatea

This was my gift for Tricia and she was the hardest one for me to do. Over a decade ago now, Tricia played in a Play-by-Email Aberrant game I was running. Her character for that game was a native american powerhouse named Thunderbird. Basically that world's answer to Wonder Woman. My first thought in setting down was to try and recreate that character. Canabalizing my Hero Clix I took Jinx's body for the flowing skirts and general lack of clothes and mixed it with Arclight's head because it had the closest hair for what I wanted. The head was slightly too big for the body. I figured I'd paint it and that would cover up some of the imperfections. This unfortunately just made it worse and she ended up looking like and elderly fae character with exam. In the end I started over.

I know that one of Tricia's favorite characters is Starfire so I wanted to give her a powerful happy female. I do actually have a Starfire figure I could have used but her hair is so distinct (special clear plastic even) that I knew it would just be Starfire in a different costume. Instead I took Powergirl for my base. The figure is pretty much unmodified other than removing it from the flight base and attaching her directly to a magnet base. I pulled out just about every metallic colored paint I had at my disposal, thinking along the lines of a female Colossus or perhaps the Bulletteer. Even the black cape is a Gunmetal black.

Galatea as the name implies is a mystically based heroine. What better name for a heroine who turns into a statue when drained of her powers plus Powergirl's one appearance on Justice League Unlimited used the name so it fits.

Cynthia Masters was just like any girl looking for acceptance and a purpose beyond herself that she wasn't finding in church she grew up in. Under ideal circumstance she would have fallen in with the Wiccan community but on her way there she stumbled with a cult of alchemists. Their leader recognized a real talent in Cynthia but unfortunately the lure of finally turning lead into gold caused him to make some rather unethical choices where she was concerned. This all culminated on the night of the full moon with Cynthia tied to an altar about to be sacrificed. Fortunately for her, a team of supers had been made aware of the cult and charged in just in time. In the chaos the ritual was disrupted and the summoned spirit descended into Cynthia's body, transforming her.

The team helped Cynthia acclimate to her new powers and it was only natural that she later joined them taking the name Galatea. Her new powers give the heroine complete control over which metals are in her makeup shifting it at will. Her preference when not in combat is a golden skin tone with brass hair and platinum clothes, shifting to harder alloys when necessary. By rotating an inner iron core through mercury she is also able to control her personal magnetic field enough to grant herself the gift of flight as well.
